Silver linings abound: I always knew I loved my son, but you certainly get a “perspective-check” when you go through a parting like that. His despair is tough to bear witness to, but reinforces how dearly he loves me. It strengthens my already tough resolve to remain as a positive influence in his life, despite the geographic distance between us.

Enjoying Life’s Pace: Waiting really shouldn’t be an occupation…things will happen when they happen and not one minute sooner. That is the way of life; it runs at its own pace. Enjoy as many minutes as you can.

I would encourage any absentee fathers to consider, for the sake of their children, the following: – maintain the bond of love; – seek the silver lining; – provide guidance as best you can; – and have fun together!These rewards of fatherhood are entirely in YOUR hands.

If you can’t be happy about everything, then just be happy about something, or some thing. Surely there is one thing in your life, at the very least, that you are happy about— perhaps as simple as being happy you have the ability to read these words and understand the concept proposed.Some people are happy at just being alive. I know I am. It sure beats the alternative.

Even sorrow has its silver lining, as the emotion that pours forth reminds us of ourcapacity to love, and to be loved.

What makes a good father? A good father sets an example that his children want to follow. A good father provides for the needs of his children—both material and non-material. A good father demonstrates his love in both words and actions. A good father provides guidance in a positive fashion.

I am a proud father in the fulfillment I feel when I provide guidance to my son. We have tremendous sharing together, which I now share in words with you today, with only a humble choice of adjectives to truly describe the emotions I feel arising from my relationship with my son. I imagine each of us has relationships of which we can be proud.

I am a proud father in the accomplishments of my son, who fills my heart with joy and my mind with favourable wonderings. He enhances my purpose on this wondrous planet. Parents, be aware that not only are you a model for your children, but in some fashions they are models for you— taking life easy, with a spirit of adventure. Encourage your kids to be kids!

Both joy and sorrow serve as gauges for love: our love for others, and their love for us.
